Author Visit - Dawn Roberton

Author of Lizzie and the Birds, Dawn Robertson, came to visit Plantation yesterday. Dawn and Mick (the book’s illustrator) had heard about the fantastic work that our children produced earlier on in the year and decided that a visit was a must. To start the day off, Dawn led an assembly for KS2 about life as an author and how picture books had inspired her throughout her childhood and her career. She then went on to share her first drafts of Lizzie and the Birds and the children began to predict who each of the characters from the book were based on. We all decided that Mr Boulton was very similar to Rob Builder because of his organisation skills!

Years one and two were then lucky enough to work with Dawn in smaller groups and they got to meet toys of Lizzie, Buster and of course, the birds. They then viewed some of Mick’s original illustrations for the book.

A huge thank you to Dawn and Mick, the children and staff of Plantation had an amazing morning and we are all eager to read what happens in the sequels to follow the much-loved book that we have all enjoyed so much this year.
