Lee Whiteley visit - Upper 5

Lee Whiteley visit

We had a fantastic day in Upper 5 on Friday 24th February as Plantation had a visit from British para-sport athlete Lee Whiteley. Lee Whiteley was born with cerebral palsy and in 2013 he won a bronze medal at the IPC Athletic World Championships.

The children in Upper 5 were able to complete a circuit with Lee and have a 10 minute personal discussion with him. We also had a session with an NHS nurse about the importance of controlling the amount of sugar we eat and had visual representations of how much sugar exactly is in the foods we eat (we had some shocks!).

Finally, at the end of the day, Lee had an assembly with the whole of Upper School to discuss his journey from being bullied in school to becoming an athlete who has represented their country at the highest level. This was very motivating and I am sure this has inspired many children to work hard to achieve their dreams.

We would all like to say a big thank you to Lee for coming into Plantation, and also to Mr Sanders who put a lot of time and effort into arranging this.
