Roald Dahl Day!-Lower 3

Date: 14th Sep 2016 @ 11:22am

On Tuesday 13th September, Lower 3 celebrated Roald Dahl's 100th Birthday with a celebration day in school.

First of all, thank you to all parents, carers and other family members for the fantastic contribution of cardboard boxes, empty bottles, cardboard tubes etc, these were greatly appreciated and will be used in the future too for more of our fabulous creations! On the day, we started by watching a clip from 'The Twits', where Mr and Mrs Twit were enjoying a meal of 'wormy spaghetti', which several of the children couldn't bring themselves to watch! We then discussed our ideas of 'disgusting meals' and ingredients that we could use (see the photo below)

The children then had the opportunity to create their own disgusting meal using lots of resources, for example string, glitter, googly eyes, sequins, tissue paper etc. There was also the option of making a 'Dream Jar' off the BFG, which several children chose to do instead. Our finished creations were fantastic! We had 'wormy spaghetti with slugs and spidery pasta', 'sick and snail trails' and 'googly eye meatballs'!

We also watched 'The Magic Finger' by Roald Dahl, and finished our day by colouring in our own Roald Dahl pictures. Before the children went home, they each received a 'Roald Dahl Day' certificate, to congratulate them for taking part.

Well done to all of our Year 1 children for their brilliant creations :)
