Tatton Park visit with Upper 4

Date: 28th Jun 2018 @ 8:11pm

On Wednesday 20th June Upper 4 visited Tatton Park as a preparation trip for when the children study World War 2 in Year 6. We had an amazing day! With lots of experiences that the children won’t forget; when we arrived we were greeted by Farmer George and Peter, who informed us that they were only expecting 5 evacuees but 30 had turned up! They then told the children that I would need to go on a bike to the nearest town at lunchtime to get some ration books for the children, as they didn’t have any! We were taken to Aunt Mary’s cottage, and the children had to put on their best dad faces to persuade her to take us all in! We then split into groups, and the group I was with went into the cottage and were able to toast bread on an open fire! Then we met some of the animals, including pigs, chickens, goats and sheep! We also met the Shire horse, Blossom. We also were able to feed the goats and the chickens, which the children really enjoyed. We had our lunch, and spent the afternoon learning about how to milk cows, and having a real air raid! The siren went off, and we all had to shelter in an air raid shelter, where we learnt the song Run Rabbit Run with actions, and then two very brave children (Jacob and John) went out to check for the all clear! When we knew it was ‘safe’, we went to the gift shop, then had a play on the field before back to school. We all had a fantastic day, the childrens’ behaviour was brilliant, and it certainly sparked some enthusiasm for Year 6!
