- Year 1 A 2019 - 2020

Mrs Chadwick

Welcome to Mrs Chadwick's class page.

Looking forward to an exciting year ahead in our class. The children have settled in really well in the first week and are starting to get used to the daily routines.

Please check our page for regular blog updates and photos of the exciting things going on in our class.

In maths this term we will be working on reading and writing  numbers to 10, as well as addition and subtraction including solving problems. This will be implemented through the maths mastery curriculum, which aims to deepen children's understanding of maths using concrete resources.

In English, high quality books form a basis for our planning and teaching. This term we will focus on 'Lizzie and the birds' and traditional tales in which simple sentences, grammar and punctuation will be our focus. Also, phonics and guided reading will form a daily part of our lessons.

Our Science topic on 'My body' will include investigations on the 5 senses and our topic for Creative Curriculum this half term is Changes within living memory. We will be learning about how life has changed during the lives of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.

Things to remember

We will be having a weekly indoor and outdoor PE session, so the children will need indoor (shorts, T-shirt and indoor pumps) and outdoor (track suit and outdoor trainers) PE kits. They will be kept in school for this half term. PE is on a Wednesday and Friday.

Children will have milk and fruit at playtimes. We recommend that your child brings in a water bottle with their names on, to be taken home and refreshed each day.

Please make sure that your children's school uniform and PE kits are labelled.

Your child will be given a reading book, along with a reading journal for you to make comments and sign. Please listen to them read as often as you can in a quiet area. I would hope that they change their reading book once or twice weekly.

Your child will take home an orange home communication book, in order to maintain home/ school relationships and also to record the name of their library book. The library books they choose are a chance for both parent and child to share a reading experience, as the book they choose may be too difficult for them to read independently. If there is an imortant message you want me to read, write it in this book and tell your child to hand it to me, as I don't have time to check the book bags.

Within the next few weeks we will send spelling rules along with spellings to learn on a Monday, ready for a quiz on a Friday.

Keep checking the website for photographs and pictures of our work!

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Chadwick.
