-Year 2 C 2018 - 2019

Miss Robinson

Welcome to Year 2c's class page

The children have settled in to Year 2 fantastically and we’re all excited for a great year ahead! Check our class page regularly for blog updates and photos of some of the fun and exciting things we get up to in class. I will also post any important dates, events and general reminders in our blog.

Autumn term topics:

Our Creative Curriculum topic for Autumn term is: ‘Famous for more than five minutes’.

We will be learning all about what it means to be famous and sharing information on our favourite famous people. We will then be researching and learning about some of the most influential British monarchs. We will learn what life was like in the Tudor period when Queen Elizabeth I reigned. We will then study Queen Victoria and think about what life was like for Victorian people. Along the way we will be developing our history skills, thinking about chronological order, making comparisons between life then and now and using mystery artefacts to learn more about the Tudor/Victorian periods.

In Science we will be learning all about Super Scientists and carrying out lots of practical investigations and experiments based on their work. We will also be learning about Growth and Survival and what it takes to stay healthy.

Please read on below for some key information for this year:

Reading- Children choose their own reading book to take home with their reading record. Please comment in the reading record book when you have listened to your child read. I would like everyone to change their reading book at least once a week. When children change their reading book in class they will often read with an adult before taking the book home to enjoy. I will hear all of the children read each week as part of Guided Reading lessons.

Spellings- New spelling lists will be given out every Friday. We will then complete some work on the rule during the following week in school, before a class test each Friday. Please discuss and practise the rule at home.

Homework- Reading books and spelling words will be sent weekly. Any additional maths and English homework will be sent home on a Friday and can be returned any day of the following week. There will be a big emphasis on learning times tables in maths and English homework will often be some grammar, punctuation or reading comprehension work.

P.E- We have two P.E sessions each week, one indoor and one outdoor. Children will need their indoor kit (shorts, t-shirt and pumps) and their outdoor kit (a tracksuit and trainers) in school for these lessons. These kits must remain in school at all times, but will be sent home at the end of every half term so they can be washed.

Water bottles- It would be brilliant if every child has a named, water bottle in school to enable them to drink as much as possible during the school day, especially when the weather is warm and for after P.E lessons.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Killough
