International and Cultural Work 2018 - 2019

At Plantation, we place a huge emphasis on broadening the minds of all children to ensure they have knowledge of the world around them, outside of the UK. Our aims are to raise the awareness of diversity and to deepen their understanding of other cultures and traditions; especially in the wake of Brexit. We want to celebrate the children’s achievements and raise awareness of Plantation’s international ethos and cultural understanding. In today’s society we firmly believe in the importance of children having an international awareness and a good understanding of worldwide religions, cultures and traditions. We want our children to see the importance of this and achieving the International School Award Full Accreditation  shows that this awareness is valuable and their work is recognised, praised and encouraged. Children and parents know the importance of subjects such as Maths and English through accreditations in those areas and we can, as a school, reinforce to the children and parents the importance of international awareness through this achievement.

In July 2018, Plantation Primary School were awarded the British Council's prestigious International School Award Full Accreditation in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

Sir Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, said: ‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms.

Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.’
