Nursery - Miss Furneyo 2023 - 2024

Miss Furneyo

Class Teacher

Welcome to Nursery's class page!

Nursery is where most of our children begin their journey and join our school community. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a warm Plantation Welcome. We are really excited about working with you and your child throughout the year and cannot wait to show you all of the exciting things Nursery will be getting up to.

My name is Miss Furneyo, and I am your child’s class teacher. Working alongside me are Mrs Green and Mrs McCumiskey.

We are a school committed to the principles of Early Excellence and throughout the Foundation Stage…

We believe that children learn best when they are happy and well motived.

We aim to provide a stimulating environment with a rich variety of learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.

We encourage our children to become active learners- exploring, questioning, and curious about their surroundings.

Outdoors

The children go out in all weathers, all year round, exploring and learning from the four seasons and environmental changes. The children’s interest, along with the natural resources in our woodland, are used to stimulate creative thinking, problem solving and skill development - all in the guise of play. Foundation stage is very practical, with our learning taking place both indoors and outdoors. On your child’s first day, can you please ensure they bring with them:

  • Waterproof suit
  • Wellies
  • Hoodie/Fleece
  • A drawstring bag to put all items in, clearly labelled with their name.

Independence

We encourage our children to be independent as possible, this includes being able to use zips and fastenings. We will be working towards our children being able to put on their own coats and shoes and with practise they will soon master their waterproofs too! Please support your child at home with these activities.

Ideally, your child also needs to be able to use the toilet independently. However, we do recognise that all children are different and if your child still needs support with toileting, could you please provide a change of clothes (including underwear and socks), clearly labelled. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to pop in for a chat.

Book bags

This year we have introduced book bags to Nursery, this helps prepare the children for Reception. Book bags need to be sent in everyday and can remain in school unless your child needs to bring any letters or pieces of artwork home.

From October half term children will be taking books home to read for pleasure on a weekly basis. More information will follow closer to the time and will be sent over Tapsestry.

Water bottles

Your child does not need to bring a water bottle to Nursery unless it is part of their packed lunch. There are opportunities throughout the day where the children are offered water. They can also ask for it whenever they wish throughout the day and a staff member will kindly help them.
