Home Learning Pack for the week beginning the 29th of June

Hello and welcome to our learning for the week beginning 06/07/20.

As well as our maths, English and phonics lesson links below, we are also studying sculptures in art, South America in geography, Gertrude Bell in history, what animals need to survive in science and kindness in PSHE.

At the bottom of the page are some extra challenges you and your child may also find interesting.

Monday
English: Today in English the children will be considering if sentences are questions or statements. If your child needs a reminder of the different types of punctuation (. ? !) and how to use them correctly, follow the link here to different learning clips: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8x6cj6. Maths: Maths today is all about describing turns. You can find the worksheet at the bottom of this page.
Phonics: Today’s phonics lesson is recapping the alternative ‘ea’ sound as in feather. Follow the link to the lesson here (lesson 29): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wVqAKgocB0. There is also a follow up activity which can be found at the bottom of this page.
Art: This week in art the children will be creating their own sculptures, using reusable materials from their homes! Their inspiration will be from a British artist called Michelle Reader, who is known for her unique sculptures made out of reusable materials. The sculptures can be made from rubber gloves to plastic bottles! Tuesday
English: Today in English the children will be creating their own counting poem, using a word bank to help them. This week’s English booklet can be found at the bottom of the page.
Maths: Maths today is all about describing position. You can find the worksheet at the bottom of this page.

Wednesday

History: This week in history the children will be learning about a famous female explorer called Gertrude Bell. She was best known for her travels to the Middle East. Thursday

Maths: Maths today is all about solving problems with position and direction. You can find the worksheet at the bottom of this page.

Science: This week in science the children are going to be learning about what animals, including humans need to survive. Once the children have finished there is a worksheet below, where the children can compare how a human meets their needs to how a dog meets their needs.

Friday
English:
Today in English the children will be completing a comprehension all about the weather. This week’s English booklet can be found at the bottom of the page.

Maths: Each Friday morning a maths challenge will be posted on the class Twitter pages.
Phonics: Weekly spelling test of CVC words.
PSHE: This week in PSHE the children will be learning about kindness and how you can be kind at home. They will be looking at other people being kind and how it is easy to perform little, meaningful acts of kindness every day whilst at home. You might not have all the resources at home in order to complete some experiments. If this is the case, why not make a prediction on what you think will happen? Then find a video on YouTube where someone does the experiment.

Great Explorers (History)

For History this term the chidren have been learning about 'great explorers', such as Amy Johnson, Ranulph Fiennes and Christopher Columbus. As a project the children can choose of these explorers or another explorer that they are interested in and explain what makes this person a 'great explorer'. Please don't forget to tweet pictures of thier work when they are finished.
