Year 1 B - Miss McKimm 2019 - 2020

Miss McKimm

Welcome back Year 1! yes

Welcome to our class page, please check back regularly for blog updates and to see photos of the fun, exciting things going on in our class!

Well done to my class for having a great first day in year 1! It was lovely to see all of the chidren coming in looking so smart with big smiles on their faces.

In Maths this year, we will be following a ‘ maths mastery’ approach, which aims to deepen children's understanding of maths using concrete resources. In the autumn term,  we will be working on reading and writing numbers to 10, as well as addition and subtraction including solving problems.

In English this term we will focus on 'Lizzie and the birds' and traditional tales, grammar including punctuation will be our focus. Phonics is taught daily and is a big focus in year 1.

Our first Science topic will be 'My body' and we will take part in some fun investigations linked to our 5 senses. Our History topic this half term is ‘toys in the 1960's’ and comparing them to modern toys.

Things to remember:

In Year 1, children have two PE lessons each week. Indoor PE will be on a Wednesday and children will need a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps for this lesson. Outdoor PE is on a Friday and the children will need a tracksuit and trainers. Please make sure that these kits are clearly labelled.

Children will have milk and fruit at playtime. We do recommend that your child brings in a named water bottle, which they can use throughout the day.

In Year 1, children will need to bring in their book bag everyday so that reading books and letters can be taken home safely. Your child has been given a reading book this week, along with a reading record for you to make comments and sign. Please listen to them read as often as you can in a quiet area. They should aim to change their reading book once or twice weekly.

Thank you for your support,

Miss McKimm smiley
