Year 2 B - Miss Hughes 2019 - 2020

Miss Hughes

Welcome to Year 2b's class page

The children have settled in to Year 2 fantastically and we’re all excited for a great year ahead! Check our class page regularly for blog updates and photos of some of the fun and exciting things we get up to in class. I will also post any important dates, events and general reminders in our blog.

Autumn term topics:

Our Creative Curriculum topic for Autumn term is: ‘History Makers’.

This enquiry provides an opportunity for young historians to think critically about what it means when people in the past are referred to as having ‘made history’ or as ‘history makers’. The children will study significant figures from the past who have 'made history' for example: Guy Fawkes, Marie Curie and Malala. Finally, the pupils have an opportunity to reflect upon how in the future they might wish to create history and in time be remembered as a history maker.

In Science we will be learning all about Super Scientists and carrying out lots of practical investigations and experiments based on their work. We will also be learning about Growth and Survival and what it takes to stay healthy.

Please read on below for some key information for this year:

Reading- Children choose their own reading book to take home with their School Planner. Please comment in the planner when you have listened to your child read. I would like everyone to change their reading book at least twice a week. When children change their reading book in class they will often read with an adult before taking the book home to enjoy. I will hear all of the children read each week as part of Guided Reading lessons.

Spellings- New spelling lists will be given out every Friday. We will then complete some work on the rule during the following week in school, before a class test each Friday. Please discuss and practise the rule at home.

Homework- Reading books and spelling words will be sent weekly. Any additional maths and English homework will be sent home on a Friday and can be returned any day of the following week. There will be a big emphasis on learning times tables in maths and English homework will often be some grammar, punctuation or reading comprehension work.

P.E- We have two P.E sessions each week, one indoor and one outdoor. Children will need their indoor kit (shorts, t-shirt and pumps) and their outdoor kit (a tracksuit and trainers) in school for these lessons. These kits must remain in school at all times, but will be sent home at the end of every half term so they can be washed.

Water bottles- It would be brilliant if every child has a named, water bottle in school to enable them to drink as much as possible during the school day, especially when the weather is warm and for after P.E lessons.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Hughes.
