Year 2 - Mr Fillis 2022 - 2023
Welcome to Class 2F's class page.
Welcome back and what a delight it is to be back in school! Your children have settled in very well and have already started to do some fantastic work. Please follow my class page on Twitter, where I will update regularly to share work and other important information. Here is the address, @Plant_MrFillis
Please read on below for some key information for this year:
Homework- Reading is a major focus. In Year Two, it begins to move away form phonics into fluency and comprehension. Children will finish their Read, Write Inc scheme at different points throughout this year. This affects homework slightly. A new reading book is sent home each Friday and changed the following Friday. This is one that the children choose themselves from the class library and is to be shared with an adult at home. It is a book that they have chosen themselves which has caught their interest. Sometimes it may be 'too easy', or other times 'too hard', but please share these books and talk about why they chose it, helping as appropriate. This is our 'Reading For Pleasure' book. In addition to this, children will be given a 'Bookbag Book' every Monday. This follows the Read, Write Inc scheme and when children complete the scheme, moves onto Bookbands. Children working on Read, Write Inc also are assigned a new online book every Wednesday, or every third day if in Mrs Dundon's group. Children who complete Read, Write Inc then move on to the Spelling Programme, where they will receive a spelling log to take home and a new area to access on Oxford Owls. It is important to have planners ion school every day, but your child's English teacher needs it each Monday to change the Bookbag books. Other curriculum homework is sent in the form of challenges connected to topics. Look out on Twitter for these. I also use this to inform you of where we are up to with maths so that you can practise timestables, place value etc at home too.
P.E- We have two P.E sessions each week and these are each MONDAY (outdoor PE) and WEDNESDAY (indoor PE). Children should come to school wearing their PE kit and remain in this attire for the whole day. Our school PE kit consists of: a plain white t-shirt (or one with the school crest) and black shorts when the weather is warm. Children may wear a plain, dark tracksuit for outdoor PE or when the weather is cooler. Please wear trainers with good ankle support and not plimsolls.
Water bottles- It would be brilliant if every child has a named, water bottle in school to enable them to drink as much as possible during the school day, especially when the weather is warm and for after P.E lessons. Children do not need to bring any snacks into school at all. We provide fruit or vegetables as a morning snack and milk is on offer too.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Fillis.
