Year 6 Spruce - Mr McGorian 2025 - 2026
Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to our class page for 6 Spruce. Here you will find lots of useful and essential information about our curriculum, routines and expectations.
We are looking forward to the exciting year we have ahead and we hope that you all will join us in helping make your child's final year at Plantation a memorable one.
Our Year 6 Team
- Mr. McGorian - Class Teacher
- Mrs. Panther - Class Teacher
- Mrs Green - HLTA
- Miss. Knox – Teaching Assistant
- Mrs. Kotti – Teaching Assistant
- Mrs. Corness - Blossom Suite Support
Snacks and Water Bottles
Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle labelled with their name. Also, if your child wishes to have a snack during break times, it must be one of the following items:
- Toast
- Fruit
- Plain biscuit
Plantation Planners
Please ensure your child brings their planner to and from school every day.
They will need it to record reading, to record accelerated reader quiz scores and to access usernames and passwords for educational websites.
An adult in our team will check planners every Friday. We will be looking to see if your child has recorded at least four reading entries throughout the week and for a parent/carer signature.
If you write a message in your child's planner, please remind them to show it to one of the class team of adults.
Homework
Times Tables - Children have a unique username and password for the TTRockstars website/app. Here, children can play a number of games to help with their multipilcation and division facts.
Reading – As with previous years, children will be using a reading scheme called ‘Accelerated Reader’. This scheme will identify a score for your child (which will be written in their school planner) and recommend suitable books based on that score. You may feel that the books being recommended to your child are ‘easy’, but this scheme has been designed to test your child on their understanding of the content of the book, not the fluency of their reading. Once your child completes their book, they need to bring the book back into school and complete a short test on an iPad in school. They will receive a percentage score and the scheme will then recommend a new book for them to read.
Children can also use their 'Accelerated Reader' username and passwords to access online books, using the MyON website.
Planners / Journals - Please be advised that school planners/journals should still be used to record any reading that takes place inside and outside of school and they will be collected in every Friday to be checked and signed. All children should aim to read at least 4 times a week at home.
SATs Companion - As with Mirodo in previous years, in year 6 children will have access to SATs companion through a username and password in their planners. SATs Companion acts in the exact same way as Mirodo, with a similar layout, but with a specific focus on SATs. Children can use SATs Companion at any time to access practice activities and can also access tasks set for homework here, too.
Spellings - New spellings will be given out every Monday and children will learn them in school during the week. We will have a special focus on learning spelling rules. Please see your child's planner/journal to find these for any additional practice at home.
Timetable and PE sessions
Please see the attached copy of our general class timetable at the end of this page.
Indoor PE: Tuesday afternoon
Outdoor PE: Thursday afternoon
On days where your child has a PE lesson, they should attend school in their kit for the full day. The correct PE kit MUST be worn. If the person leading the PE lesson deems that your child’s kit is not appropriate, they will be asked to sit out and may miss some or all of the session.
PE kit is:
Plain white t-shirt or polo shirt
Plain black shorts
Black tracksuit top and bottoms, black leggings may also be worn
Trainers or pumps
Other sports kits, such as football strips, are not appropriate and must not be worn.
Watches and jewellery must be removed for PE. Long hair must be tied back.
Parents/carers will be notified via the School Planner should they not be in kit regularly (twice in succession).
