19.05.17 - Plantation become EFC Y3 Champions!!!

Date: 21st May 2017 @ 8:25pm

What a day we had on Friday! It was an early start for all of the boys, and we almost didn't make it in time after a mini-bus mix up, but thankfully we arrived in the nick of time for the walk from the tunnel to the Goodison Park pitch. We then had 20 minutes to wait before our semi-final match up against St Basils. The boys got warmed up with Mr Green and were ready to give it 100% when the whistle blew.

The game started well for us as the boys began to control the ball and dominate possession. With moments left of the first half, Joel managed to weave between two defenders and whip a superb cross into the box. Cayden was there to tap it in and give us a 1-0 lead going into half time. The second half started and St Basil began to show why they were also in the semi-finals. However, a Denny goal kick was pounced upon by Cayden, who took advantage of some poor defending to slot home his second of the game. A fantastic volley from St Basils followed, but we made it to the final whistle and progressed into the final!

We then had an hour to wait until the final, so we went for a look around and took a few pictures inside the tunnel and away dressing room.

Finally, the final had arrived and we were playing Childwall CoE. The boys knew some of their players from Sunday league football, and I knew the manager from my school days, so the rivalry added an extra bit of spice to the game. Childwall started the game nicely, passing the ball around in defence and looking comfortable in possession. However, we quickly stopped this from happening and Cayden was the first on the score sheet to make it three in two games. We then continued to dominate the game, with a number of efforts on goal from all of the boys. However, it was a mazy Harvey run and cross goal finish that made it 2-0 and left us feeling comfortable at half time. Fearing a backlash from Childwall, we went out unchanged, yet it was us who continued to dominate the game. With five minutes to go, Lucas' cross was calmly controlled and finished by Joel to make it 3-0. The icing on the cake came moments later, when Cayden hit a looping volley into the top left corner to make it 4-0 and that is how the game ended. A truly wonderful performance by all of the boys! Below are the pictures from the trophy ceremony:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Green for attending the competition and for running training sessions for the boys before the competitions. Without him, we would not have been able to attend the competitions!
