NEW Home Reading Rewards Scheme

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!  I hope you have had a good festive break.

I would like to start the New Year off with a message about our new scheme to promote the importance of reading with our children.

This involves celebrating and rewarding the children’s regular reading at home with the aim of attaining 50, then 75, then 100 ‘reads’ at home recorded in their Planners.

A ‘read’ is approximately 10-20 minutes of reading at home.  For younger children, this may be a whole book; for older children, this may be a chapter.  Of course, they can read for more than 20 minutes (it still counts as one ‘read’ in their Planner each day)!

Full details are copied below and are also set out on our school website here.

We will be discussing and explaining the new initiative with the children in this Friday’s assembly and hope the children can get you involved as much as possible with reading as a regular feature of their home learning.

Once we have run the scheme through in full, we will be asking for feedback from you and your child to see how it has gone and if we can make it even better.

Many thanks and happy home reading!

Mr Hanley
