15.11.16 - Halewood Indoor Athletics Competition - written by Mr Sanders

Date: 19th Nov 2016 @ 8:13pm

The children had trained with Mr Noblett over the past six weeks and were raring to go! First up were the throwing and jumping events. All of our children participated in at least one of these events and we absolutely smashed them! We were in the top three schools at the end of these events, but only the top two would go through to the Knowsley finals.

Our progression was now going to be determined by how well we competed in the running races. The first race started really well but then....we dropped the baton. Then the first girls race started briliantly! We were in joint first when...we dropped the baton. After some advice from Mr Hodgson and I, the team went back out to race again. It was looking promising when...we dropped the baton. Mr Noblett (who was with Halewood CE for the event [traitor!]) couldn't believe his eyes! The trend continued throughout all of the running races. We investigated to see whether we were getting the baton smeared in butter, but it was perfectly normal.

The baton fumbles had taken its toll on our chances of progressing to the Knowsley finals. We finished 4th overall, but all of the children had a great time and are now really looking forward to next year's competition.

I would like to thank Mr Noblett for all of his hard work over the past six weeks, and Mr Hodgson volunteering his time to helping out with the team at the event.
