Euro 2016 FIFA Tournament (Qualifying Day 2)

Date: 26th May 2016 @ 2:52pm

Thursday 26th May - Reporting by our Sport Editors Chloe, Lucy and Megan.

Today was the second day of the Fifa tournament in Mr.McGorian’s classroom. After yesterday’s exciting games, the crowd was ready and roaring for today’s games. The first game was a big one as Sam was raring to go against Luca (both from Miss Hughes’ class) Sam chose Dortmund-known as BVB- while Luca picked Argentina, and the game began!

As the game kicked off, both teams put up a strong fight, and the match stayed without a goal at 0-0. Coming close to half time, both teams tried their hardest to gain a goal before half time. With half time coming nearer, Luca tried to get close to the goal... he shot and SCORED! Just before half time! It was 1-0 to Luca. Sam needed a goal to keep him in with a chance of winning. However, he lowered his chances as Kagawa got himself a red card. It was now half time. With most of the action happening in the first half, the second half was a quiet one. The game was ended with two minutes added time and then the game was over. Luca won the match with a score of 1-0, securing his place in the group games of the Euro 2016 Fifa tournament.

The second game of the day was a whopper as Darren was against Billy. Darren chose to be Barcelona and Billy chose to be Real Madrid. Billy got off to a quick start, by leading 2-0, although he ended up coming across very cocky when he tried to use his goalie to dribble the ball out towards the centre of the pitch. Darren acted fast and tackled Billy’s goalkeeper and scored a cheeky goal! The score was then 2-1 to Billy. Later on in the game, Billy landed himself with a yellow card but this didn’t affect the winning streak he was on. He went on to score a further two goals, making the score 4-1. Knowing he couldn’t recover from this game, Darren decided that he would rather quit the game than lose to Billy. The game was ended by Darren with five minutes to go. This meant that Billy was through to compete in the main tournament.

The penultimate game was Ben B against Haider. The match was off to a good start for Haider when he scored early on in the match! With three minutes added time and no further goals, both teams knew that the result was going to be inevitable. Haider was through to the main stage of the competition. Ben admitted to the crowd at the start of the game that it wasn’t going to be a good game for him and that he had a feeling Haider would win. Haider was playing as Germany and Ben was playing as Spain.

The final match of the day was played by Mason & Jack. Mason was playing as Liverpool and Jack was Barcelona.  Mason managed to score in the first minute with a great goal! To make things worse for Jack, he got himself a straight red card and it was a great player: Messi. It was now half time. To even out the game, Mason (Liverpool) had one of his players, Henderson, sent of because he was given two yellow cards throughout the game. Each team now had ten players. Liverpool –Mason - carried on and went on to score yet another goal. The game was over and Mason had won. He was now through to compete in the main event. This was the end of the second day of the Fifa qualifiers!
