'Home Learning Pack 3'

Date: 18th Apr 2020 @ 2:19pm

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you all have had a lovely and safe Easter at home with your families. Believe it or not, we are now entering week 5 of learning from home! We have tried our best to reduce the amount of work that needs to be printed out, so children can record their answers in either: Their home learning notebook or on a piece of paper, when work cannot be printed. Do not feel pressure to complete all this work, it is up to you to decide what suits your family best, we appreciate that learning from home can be extremely challenging, especially with younger children that often require support when doing their work.

‘Home Learning pack 3’ includes:

Maths: 4 maths worksheets based on doubling and halving, with answers included. Each lesson also has a matching learning clip for the children, which can be found by following the link: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/. There is also a Friday maths challenge, which will be posted on twitter on Friday morning.

English: As a school we have decided to follow a structure for our English lessons over the school closure, to ensure that the children are continuing to develop all aspects of the English curriculum. On Monday’s the children will receive their spellings on both twitter and spellingshed, as well as a comprehension to complete. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be SPAG lessons and Friday will be a creative writing opportunity.

Phonics: For phonics we will be using the Monster Phonics Scheme to aid the children in revising their sounds. This week we will be ee, ea as in heat, ea as in bread and er. Each day has a video/ppt that should be viewed first and then an accompanying worksheet. For the first part of the worksheet the children will need to be given a selection of words for the given sound that day for them to practice writing e.g. for ea you could give: heat, treat, leaf, sea and dream. For something a bit different instead of the worksheet you can also use the flashcards as a game to consolidate their knowledge. On Friday as there is no phonics lesson this is when we would encourage the children to do their spelling quiz.

Science: Our science topic in school last term was ‘materials’, this week for their work the children have been given an indoor scavenger hunt to find properties of materials within the house.

Geography: This week for Geography the children are going to complete a worksheet all about where they live.

History: For history the children have been given a ‘COVID19 Time Capsule Booklet’ this is something that can be dipped in and out of over a period of time and we become a lovely keepsake for the children in the future.

PSHE: For PSHE this week I am encouraging the children to make a jar of things they would like to do/people they would like to see when life returns to normal. This in particular can be a very uplifting activity for the children to do if they are feeling particularly worried or sad one day.

DT/Art: For DT/Art this week the children are being challenged to build a model of their dream house using materials that they can find both in their house and garden!

We will be tweeting daily reminders of the activities and giving the children challenges to help keep them engaged. Where possible please remain connected by tweeting pictures of your child’s/children’s finished work to their class twitter page. There are also lots of alternative resources on our class’ homepage, if your child fancies something a bit different!  As always if you have any questions or queries please contact me on the school blog/ twitter, or you can call the school office and leave a message smiley

Many thanks as always for continuous support during this difficult time,

Miss McKimm and Mrs Chadwick.
