Plantation Newsletter Summer 2 - 13.06.25
Welcome to the final and busiest half term of the year.
Staff changes
Mr Boulton will sadly leave us at the end of the academic year to go and work at Bleak Hill Primary School in St. Helens. We are incredibly sad to see him go but wish him well. Mr Boulton has worked
tirelessly for the children of Plantation Primary for many years and is a well-loved member of staff who will be missed.
A new Deputy Head Teacher will join us in September. His name is Mr Neil Jones, and he is coming to us from Prescot Primary School. He will visit us before the end of the year to get to know the children, staff and hopefully a few parents before the end of July. The job attracted lots of interest, and we were able to shortlist very experienced candidates. Some children got to meet and speak to the shortlisted candidates. One of the reasons the interview panel chose Mr Jones was his experience of leading the curriculum across a big school, his experience with safeguarding and SEND and his belief in nurturing good relationships with children and their families. He was also very funny
and had a lovely manner with the children he spoke to.
Mr Gaze has joined us as our Site Manager, he will be working to make sure that the site is clean, safe and to work with our Trust to ensure that the final phase of the building work is completed. Miss Smith will be leaving us to begin her maternity leave in July. We will share her happy news with you when the baby arrives! I am sure you will join us in wishing her well.
Parent Governor Vacancies
We would like to recruit extra governors! Information about how to apply is available from the office. Applications will be shared with all parents and a ballot will take place. We are not looking for specific qualifications or experience just a desire to help us make Plantation be the best it can be. We would appreciate applicants who have the capacity to get into school during the day once or twice a year. Please give me a call or catch me at the gate if you have any questions about applying.
Building Work – Phase 3 begins
We are about to begin phase 3 of the building work in school. Knowsley Council have handed over the final phase to our Trust so that we can manage the speed of the work and prevent term time disruption to learning. This phase will look at the development of the outside areas – putting effective drainage into and restoring the field, extending the MUGA and playgrounds as well as the complete renovation of the KS1 part of the building. The majority of this will take place over the summer holidays but somethings will start before the end of summer term.
Treat Trolley
Our Plantation treat trolley has been in full force this week looking for children who are trying hard to improve their handwriting and presentation. This is the focus for the next two weeks!
Spotlight on Online Safety
This week our Super Value Ambassadors have taken assemblies to highlight the importance of online safety. This follows on from assemblies led by staff and through lessons in class. We regularly receive concerns from parents about unacceptable online behaviour that is happening outside of school, and we are always happy to help to solve issues. Ways to keep children safe online from the NSPCC:
- Supervise use – keep tech use visible in the home or only allow children to be online in a
family space. - Use devices with limited features – tablets without data or non-smart phones that only allow
calls or texts. - Use family devices, accounts, and services.
- Check the content of games and apps before use.
- Turn off autoplay if your child watches videos on YouTube so you can control what is shown
‘nxt.’ - Use safety settings and regularly check they are still in place.
- If your child uses a game with a chat feature regularly check that their ‘friends’ are people
that they know in real life.
Have regular safety conversations information about this is available from the NSPPC website in the ‘Keeping children safe’ tab. Please come into school or contact school if you need any support with unhelpful online
behaviour.
Celebrate with us!
Well done to Y6 who managed the SATs week well. They were cool, calm, and collected and we could see that they all tried their absolute best. Y1 have completed their phonics check this week and they have SMASHED it! Well done to you all.
Y4 had a brilliant time on their recent residential at Nature base. They took part in several outdoor activities including den building, walking, fire lighting and team building exercises. The staff at the centre commented on the children’s excellent behaviour they were also amazed at their knowledge about science and history.
If your child has something they would like to celebrate at school such as winning a dance medal or a new belt in karate. Please send them in on a Monday with their medal or certificate and we will present it in assembly.
Uniform Reminder
Halewood Uni-Wise is a free, local school uniform recycling initiative and will be in school over the next few weeks at home time and set out almost new, excellent quality Plantation uniform for parents to take. During summer they are also open every Saturday morning between 10.30 and 12.30 from July 19th until August 23rd. They are based at St. Nicholas Centre in Halewood.
Attendance Reminder
We love having your children in school. Missing valuable lessons, or parts of lessons can have an enormous impact on learning. Please come and speak to us if you are struggling to get your child into school. We are here to help and not to judge!
