Staff changes for 2020-2021

Dear parent/carer

As we draw to nearly the end of a very strange school year I wanted to keep you up to date on staffing and some changes for 2020-2021.

As I have mentioned in a News Flash earlier this week, Miss McKimm will be leaving us this summer as her temporary contract comes to an end.  This will also be the case for Mr Hawes and Miss Noon.

Mr Hawes has been teaching in Year 3 as our maternity cover for Mrs Dundon who will be returning to school for September.  He has been an excellent teacher and a great role model for the children in his class, working hard to ensure their learning continues on in the excellent way Mrs Dundon expected and with the utmost care for the children.  Mr Hawes has not been able to work in school since the national lockdown but has been fantastic in supporting the Year 3 Home Learning while Mrs Chiocchi and Mr Sanders were in.  He will be greatly missed and we wish him every success with his new challenge of a teaching role in September.  Thank you Mr Hawes for all your hard work and care for our children!

Miss Noon has also been working on a temporary contract covering maternity leave.  She has been an amazing support for one of our pupils in year 6 and I know both he and the rest of the year group will really miss her.  She has been an excellent part of the team and supported the children brilliantly.  I am very pleased to hear that Miss Noon will now be looking at a wider class based teaching role from September and wish her every success in what I hope is the start of a great teaching career.

There is also some temporary changes to our existing staff in 2020-2021 as I will take on a new temporary role as Executive Headteacher overseeing a primary school in St Helens - St Mary and St Thomas C of E Primary - for the autumn and spring terms.  I am definitely not leaving Plantation and will instead split my week between Plantation and the other school.  Mr Boulton will step up to the role of Acting Headteacher for the days I am away and Mr Hodgson will support him as Acting Deputy Headteacher for those days too.

This is a role that came about just before the national lockdown and partial closure of schools – my timing is impeccable I know!  I also know, however, that the staff and Mr Boulton will ensure our school continues to go from strength to strength – Plantation is in very safe hands!

In the summer term I will return to the full-time role at Plantation as Headteacher and I hope the experience will bring new and fresh ideas to support our school.

In the meantime, we are doing much planning and preparing based on the latest DfE guidance published this month and over the next few weeks I will be dedicating a section of the website to give you all the information you will need to support our safe reopening in September.  Please look out for a new addition to the home bare of the school website with a drop down menu of all the facts for Plantation.

Take care and stay safe, Mr Hanley
